The benefits of getting involved politically
1. Like it or not, government has a huge impact on what occurs around us. The quality of our leadership can cause the economy to soar or collapse. Laws can be fair and just or egregiously violate standards of what is right. Working to affect the outcome of elections that decide important issues makes a difference.
2. Colleges love students who have strong political views and are active in their community. These students are simply more likely to be informed about the world and care about bettering it. Such students contribute to the quality of a college’s student body and are more likely to bring prestige to their colleges with successes in their later lives. On the other hand, sharing your political views on your college application is sometimes viewed as risky. The application reviewer might disagree with your views and be slightly biased against you.
3. Political involvement can be a valuable experience. You will get to see first-hand the workings of our democratic system of government and meet people who are regularly involved.
4. If you do a significant amount of work politically, you may have the opportunity to make some friends and connections just in case you decide to work in the public sector or run for office later in your career.
5. Especially for people who are interested in government and important issues, political involvement is fun.
Because you would simply be a volunteer, hours would be flexible and you could volunteer at times to fit your schedule and workload.
Find out about important upcoming elections, be it local, state, or national, or important current political movements, and get involved. Look at their website or call them and ask if they need volunteers or interns. Some activities you can do include finance, canvassing, phone banking, and organizing party events, and political offices are almost always looking for some extra help, so don't be hesitant to ask about available opportunities.
